1/3 of Food Is Wasted, According to the U.N.

Despite the sheer amount of food being produced in the modern food system, distribution efficiencies tend to bypass several communities that fall outside of primary distribution centers. More effective and innovative ways to distribute to these bypassed areas, and increased communications between chronically wasteful businesses and alternative food access points would help to decrease the amount of waste in the mainstream food system. Planning solutions such as easements for “community” storage facilities, acknowledgement in zoning codes of the necessity of functioning food systems within a community, and increased points of access through favorable zoning allotments within neglected communities can also assist in the overall distribution network.
